Psychosocial Problems of Adolescent Girls in Trichy District: AComprehensive Review

Abstract

Adolescent girls from the Trichy district of Tamil Nadu encounter various types of
psychosocial problems that do not allow them to develop holistically and psychologically and
hinder their future progress (Balamurugan et al., 2024; Rajkumar et al., 2022). This review
article assesses the current state of literature on the psychosocial problems of young girls aged
10–19 years in this specific area. They are related to discrimination, stress at school, early
marriage, body image issues, mental illness stigma, bullying, and cyberbullying. Through the
utilization of sociocultural, ecological, and feminist theoretical frameworks, the origins,
symptoms, and consequences of these problems are analyzed in relation to the unique
sociodemographic situation in the Trichy district.
